Friday, July 2 to August 31, 2004, the Chartreuse de Valbonne will present a suite of facilities proposed by Caroline Tapernoux. In addition to the illustration of the work of the artist through his suspensions and light projections, this course will discover works designed specially for the Charterhouse, in situ. The artist wished to associate composer Fred de Fred with this adventure, friend and accomplice for more than 18 years, rich in experiences together with artists as diverse as Joseph Racaille, Lele de Triana, Sarah Jay's Massive Attak, to name a few. He signed the original sound creation that will accompany the visitor path. Through interactive work with the artist, his sound composition should co-exist in symbiosis with the Visual proposal for Caroline Tapernoux, all promising a rich sensory experience, brought to its highest expression by an exceptional heritage site, place of spirituality.

Foreword

Historical monuments have always incorporated the creation of their time, always the man stopped to introduce art which marks each time.
The Carthusian monastery of Valbonne, this is eight centuries of artistic presence, eight centuries of life, eight centuries that this monument is involved in the continuity of the evolution of man.
The contemporary presence in this monument is a desire to include this exceptional heritage in the society in which it participates, giving a continuity of existence, allowing you, visitors to confront this new aesthetic language that we propose artists who are creating today.
This presence of the art of our time invites us to the time to live the memory of the place, while living this current world constantly changing, transformation.

Ballade in places

THE CHAPEL OF FOREIGNERS
Beginning of the course where the artist through its circular floor installation, reminds us of the idea of the Earth, the circle of spirituality, of the four cardinal points aspire us and plunge us into the history of artistic intervention in discovering this wonderful apparatus vaults. An invitation to look at the ground, to see the sky rise.
Reflection of a reality, a concrete world of immediacy of the moment.
Desire to escape, to continue...

THE CHAPEL OF COMPASSION
Delicate veil, which captures light and exterior colors to enhance the purity and modesty of the christ in the arms of the Virgin Mary. Moment of serenity, a mother with her son meeting, two beings dear, United in pain and faith.

THE CHAPEL OF FAMILIES
The round and square are breaking down, recover, Multiplicities of images. Passage of the real into spirituality, by sound intervention, which merges with the work. Work that absorbs the architectural volume as we recall the memory of the place.

THE CHAPELLE SAINTE MADELEINE
The material meets the intangible, sound search verb, invitation to listen to the world, of history, moment of peace, time for reflection.
Spirit in suspension that rises by the vocal scope.

THE LAMP-STORE
At the time of the carthusians, the lamps were rows, deaf sound descent, circle of light in vibration; the foundations of the establishment remain alive.

THE CHAPTER ROOM
Single space of dialogue and decision of the order. The artists invite you by lamps and carried by the sound of the word, write your dialogue, seek your own story... - take lamps pockets which are on the banks and illuminate the ground.

THE PASSAGE
Sound intervention that evokes this strategic space distribution function to the quest for different foods: body, mind, soul... As bubbles, notes guide us to follow these paths, these directions, it lead us to the meeting.

THE GREAT CLOISTER
Musical theme cryptic, pure, inviting them to a path in this gallery on the trace of the chartreux going father to prayer...

THE SMALL CLOISTER
Translucent light, capturing the light to reveal the fragility and strength of this architectural achievement.
